About this work

A serene existential painting by E.C. Prince provides imagery of a flower bouquet floating in eternal darkness. 

Remember Dreams depicts a flower bouquet in a glass vase alone, surrounded by and floating in negative space. What first hits the viewer as a trope, starts a departure from classical and moves inward. The lighting appears to be coming from a source inside out and what appeared as realism has evolved into further saturation of color contrasting naturalism. Some of the ‘flowers’ have physically devolved into biomorphic shapes losing the delicate detail and represent fluid objects. Upon more reflection, some may not be flowers at all. Maybe a distant memory of or is it just a dream.

The artist challenges the observer to try and “Remember Dreams”; a play on words for both actual and a parallel metaphor for life's ambitions. Maybe a reminder to go as far as to try and physically materialize your dreams while you are alive. With the obvious symbolism of limited time to find the courage to live your life as desired.

The edition translates the rich colors of the oil painting into the highest quality pigment print. The finishing touches of hand-applied UV varnish and framed on wooden stretchers make each limited edition an art in their own right.
