About this work
Imagined Peace carries forward this tradition of inventing flora, but transforms it for the modern age by blurring the line between natural and otherworldly. The works, with their saturated chroma and attractive compositions, at first glance, appear grounded in realism, evoking the familiar trope of floral arrangements. Yet, upon closer inspection, the viewer begins to notice the flowers are invented forms - some perceived natural and others foreign. These different elements come together to form something greater than the sum of their parts: a unified vision of beauty. This imagined flora offers a hopeful symbolism of what humanity could achieve if we embraced diversity rather than feared it, recognizing that our differences, like the varied flowers of a bouquet, have the potential to create something breathtakingly beautiful.
The artist’s use of lush color and form invokes an instinctual attraction in the viewer, drawing them into a free-associative process that transforms a simple floral arrangement into a meditation on peace. Through this act of imagining, Prince offers the viewer a world where peace, like these imagined flowers, feels within reach.
